Design Services

Content management systems

I have worked with a variety of content management systems over the past 20 years. While my preferred system is WordPress, I have set up or am familiar with:

  • Drupal
  • Joomla
  • MediaWiki
  • phpWiki

There are many other systems out there and I don’t have a problem learning a new one if you are currently using one or want to use something different.

WordPress

When working with WordPress, I can work from a one-click install through the host provider, manual install or an existing installation. There are a number of plugins I install for a variety of purposes and have worked with a large number of themes. It is my preferred content management system.

If you go with WordPress, I will work with you to find a theme you like or, in some cases, design a theme for you.

If designing from scratch, my preferred theme is Divi. I have a lot of developer licenses for plugins as well as Divi itself. I have expert expertise with this theme and many of my projects have been completed with tis. 

I will work with you to create what you want, including pages, for the site to get the design finished.

HTML

If you are looking for something simple and don’t need a site that receives constant updates with blog posts, etc., I can create webpages with CSS and HTML. These are significantly more limited than CMS websites and should only be used for sites that do not need regular updates.

Hosting

I do not provide hosting for websites. I will, however, advise you on the best host to go with to suite your needs and expectations. This discussion will include, but not be limited to:

  • Monthly and yearly hosting plan costs
  • Maintenance for CMS plans
  • Site backups
  • Whether you are planning to have one or more sites
  • Your technological background with hosting and servers
  • Other things you may want to do with the hosting space
  • Other topics depending on answers to the above items

While I do have affiliate accounts with at least two host providers, I will not provide you with the link for them unless you want to give me a bonus for the referral.

If you have your own hosting already, we will discuss it’s capabilities and what you want to do and go from there.

Google Analytics

I will walk you through how to set up an account for this for your website as this is a useful tool for tracking visits, SEO and more.

Site Maintenance

I can be hired to do site maintenance. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Manual backups
  • Updates of plugins, themes and WordPress itself
  • Clean out spam
  • Set up security plugins to protect your website from hackers
