PlayStationPortable, or PSP, is a handheld gaming console from Sony Corporation that uses a PSP proxy server to securely transfer data and perform various tasks via the Internet.

Importance

Although a PSP can access the Internet, it does not have direct access. It must use a program to transfer data between the Internet and your PSP. Once a proxy server has been downloaded and installed, it can be used through wired or wireless connections to access the Internet.

Downloads

A large number of proxy server programs can be downloaded on your PSP. Some are free; others are part of a paid service. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. With both free and paid services, you need to research and read user comments to ensure that you are not downloading something that will compromise your Internet security.

Creating Connection

To access the Internet through your proxy server, you need to access the main menu of your PSP. From there, select Tools and then Settings; then press the X button. This brings up a new menu from which you can select Proxy Server Settings. From there, set up the information as instructed by the Proxy Server that you downloaded and installed to your PSP.

Considerations

While most proxy servers protect your personal data, some are designed to eavesdrop and steal information, such as user names or passwords. Be sure to do your research before downloading a proxy server for your PSP.
